Top of the Pops was a very important music show on British TV for decades. From the second half of 1975 until fall 1976 denim waistcoats seem to have had a peek in ordinary peoples fashion in the United Kingdom, so they often appeared on women in the audiences of TOTP in 1975 and 1976. I like to scan the TOTP audiences of this time for young women in the background wearing denim waistcoats.
It's not easy to catch them for three reasons: First the video sequences of the show sometimes are mixed with stuff from older shows, so it's not always possible to watch out for a special woman. Second there were two, maybe more stages in the studio for the artists to appear. And the audience is always changing place and maybe flipping between the stages. Third the cameras are mostly moving while filming the artists performances, moving around the stages and so on, so there are often only small sequences of the denim waistcoat women to catch.
I found the first woman with denim waistcoat at the British music TV-show Top of the Pops from the 15th of April 1976 in the background behind the moderator between two artist performances. She has long brown hair and wears blue jeans, a white longsleeved piece and over it a darker blue denim waistcoat and can only be seen from the backside. It's possible, that she's the same woman as Woman 3 later here, but not sure.
Ok, now it becomes a little bit more complicated. While the performance of Eric Carmen on the grand piano the camera circles around the artist and the audience at his stage. I count three women with denim waistcoats.
Woman 1 in the foreground on the righter side, with light brown hair and white blouse below the denim waistcoat. Woman 2 (left) and Woman 3 (right) in the background on the right side behind the artist and behind the TOTP Logo in green half darkness. I'm only sure with Woman 1 and Woman 3 to wear denim waistcoats. My eyes also want to see Woman 2 be a nearly twin of Woman 3, but maybe it is a jeans skirt and a denim waistcoat, what she wears, but it can also be only a denim dress or a dress, it's too dark and too unclear to say it for sure.
On the next picture the head of Woman 1 is visible for a short moment.
Next pictures only show Woman 2 and Woman 3 dancing. Sometimes both, sometimes only one of them depending on the moving camera's position.
Next three pictures show Woman 1 on the left side of the grand piano, before she's moving out of the frame.
