Top of the Pops 1976-05-06

Top of the Pops was a very important music show on British TV for decades. From the second half of 1975 until fall 1976 denim waistcoats seem to have had a peek in ordinary peoples fashion in the United Kingdom, so they often appeared on women in the audiences of TOTP in 1975 and 1976. I like to scan the TOTP audiences of this time for young women in the background wearing denim waistcoats

It's not easy to catch them for three reasons: First the video sequences of the show sometimes are mixed with stuff from older shows, so it's not always possible to watch out for a special woman. Second there were two, maybe more stages in the studio for the artists to appear. And the audience is always changing place and maybe flipping between the stages. Third the cameras are mostly moving while filming the artists performances, moving around the stages and so on, so there are often only small sequences of the denim waistcoat women to catch.

At the beginning of the TOTP show from the 6th of May 1976 there was a performance of Frankie Valli with a young woman with denim waistcoat on the left side behind the artist. I didn't saw her again later, so I think, this video maybe was from an earlier show.

While the performance of Barry Manilow I've spotted another young woman with long brunette hair and a denim waistcoat in the background on the left side. And she was in the show on this day. She had a good feeling to catch camera time by standing near the artest and appeared more than one time while this show, clothed in blue jeans, a light blouse and an open denim waistcoat

She was better visible for a couple of times while the performance of SUTHERLAND BROTHERS and QUIVER:

Her smartest move to catch camera time while the show was to cross the frame inbetween two performances in the background of the moderator:

While MAC and KATIE KISSOON she appeared again near the stage in the front row.

Last appearance of her while the performance of Cliff Richard. And again: stay close to the artist to be in the same frame.

I think, I 've maybe spotted a second denim waistcoat woman in the audience on these pictures here, right in front of the singer and guitar player of SUTHERLAND BROTHERS and QUIVER:

I  saw her with denim waistcoat over a light blouse or shirt maybe with short arms only this time in the audience, while the camera is moving from right to left:

Finally I saw a sequence with a young woman in some kind of denim dress. Looking at her hair style and hair color, I think, she is not the maybe denim waistcoat woman above. And she isn't the woman at the total beginning of the post, appearing in the background of Frankie Valli.
